Startup Queenstown Lakes Trust Seeking New Trustee

The Board of Trustees for Startup Queenstown Lakes announced today they are seeking expressions of interest to add at least one additional trustee to the Trust.

The organisation is seeking a new Trustee to join the Board and provide hands-on involvement as the Trust continues to build a startup and innovation sector in the Queenstown Lakes District.

Individuals interested in pursuing this opportunity can express their interest here.

One year and moving fast

Following the formation of the inaugural Board of Trustees in late 2018, Startup Queenstown Lakes is now into its second year of operation with confirmed funding and support from the Queenstown Lakes District Council through to June 2021.

With this commitment, the funding enables the organisation to further progress our work to build an active and unified startup, innovation, and technology sector in the District by leveraging our destination status and striving towards its goal of diversifying the local economy.

The last twelve months have been busy with the establishment of a national footprint in the tourism tech space, the launch of an investor community, relationships developed with national startup ecosystem players, a team on the ground built, and the continued education and support for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Who is a good fit?

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about the startup community and can contribute to a multi-faceted organisation and its future aspirations. At least one trustee position is available on a voluntary basis with the Board meeting up to 8 times per year.

SQL has a commitment to creating a balanced, diverse board and seeks a Trustee with a broad background and direct experience in startups, entrepreneurship, and early-stage ventures.

While a range of skills would be welcome, marketing, communications, technology, financial management, sponsorship, and stakeholder engagement would be of particular interest, as with demonstration of the following attributes:

  • A strong passion and understanding of the startup journey
  • Connections to startups and entrepreneurship programmes,
  • A general understanding of economic development and the challenges/opportunities that exist in the Queenstown Lakes District
  • An interest in being involved in the development and delivery of programmes in the region throughout the year

Board positions are voluntary and roles will be for 1-3 years commencing in October 2019. Travel expenses and approved disbursements will be reimbursed.

Previous governance experience is helpful but not essential.
