If you’re still tossing up as to whether or not you should attend Startup Queenstown Lakes’ Startup Weekend (SUW), we’ve come up with a list of 6 reasons why you should come along. We know it can sometimes be daunting to put yourself out there, but we also know just how satisfying it can be once you make that leap of faith.

1. Meet like minded people

It won’t take long to realise that the type of people who give up their time to attend a SUW are exactly the type of people you need to surround yourself with on your entrepreneurial journey. People attend from all walks of life, with the same goal in mind – collaboration and innovation. It’s important to remember that you don’t need to have a business idea to attend. Come along, learn a thing or two and who knows… it could quite literally change your life.

 2. Epic mentors

Our 2020 Startup Weekend will give you access to some of the most incredible businesswomen and men. We have an abundance of amazing mentors attending this year. These are people you may have never had ‘access’ to outside the SW. Check out our Facebook page to see the full list of mentors.

3. Become part of a community

Startup Weekend is a great way to have a new experience that will help you grow professionally while also meeting a bunch of interesting and creative people. We know just how vibrant and supportive our startup community in the Queenstown Lakes is, but this is your chance to find that out first hand. The opportunity to network with well-connected people is abundant.

4. Learn business skills that extend beyond startups

Even if you don’t pursue your own Startup, the knowledge and skills gained over the weekend will be helpful in your every day job and life. Whether it’s ensuring customer validation, pitch practice, intense team collaboration, technical knowledge or just getting out of your comfort zone. The benefits are applicable beyond the startup world.

5. Get inspired

Maybe you’ve never thought about starting a business but you’ve found yourself in a unique situation following the aftermath of Covid-19. SUW will leave you feeling inspired and invigorated to do something new. Startup is a culture and the best way to get into the groove is to hang around at different startup events.

6. Have a blast

Startup Weekend’s are all about meeting new people, having new experiences and enjoying yourself while learning along the way.

You don’t need to be an enthusiastic entrepreneur, or have an idea for the next Xero/TradeMe.  You can simply come along, work with some talented, passionate people and have fun!
