We had the chance to catch up with Slate co-founder Scott Witters, about his epic new startup - a platform that connects brands to event consumers in real-time.

Q: How did Slate come about? 

A: Following 15+ years in the event tech space, seeing the drop off in event sponsorship and an industry left behind by technology.  Unsatisfied promoters, customers and brand partners…

Q: As an entrepreneur, what are the biggest lessons you’ve learnt so far? 

A: Resilience. The importance of team culture

Q: What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive in your day-to-day busy schedule?

A: Zero inbox, boomerang your emails

Q: What part of the Queenstown Lakes do you live in?

A: Queenstown

Q: What do you love about this region?

A: Big enough to attract a good pool of smart talented people that want to create value. Small enough to quickly get to know everyone and willing support each other

Q: What key activities would you recommend entrepreneurs to invest their time in?

A: Networking and crowdsourcing your ideas 

Q: What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? 

A: Get caffeinated 

Q: Can you share with us your company’s current big/or small goal?

A: Launch the first buy now pay later product for live events

Q: Who has been your greatest inspiration?

A: Sir Peter Blake 

Q: How has Covid-19 effected your business?

A: The negative being; decimating my industry of live events. The silver lining being it has forced the industry to catch up with technology to be more competitive 

Q: What is the single best piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey? 

A: Keep you day job for as long as possible

A: Joe’s Garage or any of the great craft breweries
